BIG Writing

The 'Big Write' was introduced at St Augustine’s in all classes from year 1 to 6 in October 2012 and is used alongside the New National Curriculum 2014.

The 'BIG WRITE' is an innovative way of teaching pupils all of the necessary components to become successful writers. Talking features prominently and pupils learn to switch between standard and non-standard forms of English.

VCOP displays can be seen in every classroom in the school where pupils will contribute their own:

V: vocabulary - WOW! words
C: conjunctives/connectives
O: openers for beginning sentences
P: punctuation

We encourage the development of literacy through the teaching of all subjects and quite often one will see subject-specific vocabulary (such as scientific or mathematical key words) appearing on these VCOP displays.
