Special Educational Needs
The Government has published a range of provisions to improve the quality and scope of support provided to children and young people with special educational needs, as well as their parents.
The special educational needs and disability (SEND) code of practice (2015) requires all local authorities to describe the special educational provision it expects to be available for children and young people who have SEND. This information describes the arrangements schools should have in place for Hertfordshire children and young people with SEND.
Included in these provisions is: A requirement for local authorities to publish a 'Local Offer' of services for disabled children and young people and those with special educational needs. Further information on the Hertfordshire County Council Local Offer can be found using the following link The Hertfordshire Local Offer
At St. Augustine's Primary School we value the individuality of all our children. We are committed to giving all our children every opportunity to achieve the highest standards. Following the Equality Act 2010: Schedule 10, Paragraph 3 and Disability Discrimination (prescribed Times and Periods for Accessibility Strategies and Plans for Schools) (England) Regulations, 2005, we are committed to ensuring people are not discriminated against. The Equality Act 2010 replaced previous discrimination law and provides a single piece of legislation covering all the types of discrimination that are unlawful. Schools and Local Authorities have to carry out accessibility planning for disabled pupils.
Local Offer at St Augustine’s School
St Augustine’s School offers a broad and balanced curriculum which is fully inclusive. In order for all children to access the curriculum they will benefit from scaffolds and/or additional support. A few children may require more precise individualised support.
We have provided answers to many frequently asked questions relating to what we offer our children who have a Special Educational Need or Disability (SEND).
This report will be reviewed each year.
